Releasing a Beatport Exclusive

Zachary Monson

Releasing an exclusive song or version to Beatport is a common practise in the dance music community. Whether it's a new song, or an extended mix that currently lives on one of your live releases, it's easily done via the Releese platform.

BRAND NEW SONG

If this song has never been distributed previously, you create it as you would any other regular release.  The only difference being, on the Distribution page (left sidebar) you will click Unselect All, then scroll down to find Specialty Stores, and make sure to select Beatport.

If this choice is Greyed-out, you will have to apply for Label access.

Click Apply for Access and fill out the form.

If you're accepted by Beatport, our support team will be in contact via email.

Once the Beatport label page is approved and set up, you can now add your Presaves and Add-ons, then go to Submit (left sidebar), and click Distribute Release.

FOR AN EXISTING SONG

If you want to take a song from an existing release, and have that be the only song from said release that lives on Beatport, you can do that easily, using the Automation tool.

Go to the Releases page (left sidebar) and click + Create Release (Top Right Corner), title it and give it a graphic, and click Create Release.

Go to the Recordings page of this release (left sidebar), and click Automations (Top Right Corner), then Import Recordings. From there, select the song you’re going to distribute to Beatport.
You should see the song show up on your page.

Click the Metadata dropdown and confirm all the information has been correctly copied over. The only change you need to make is to ensure the UPC field is left blank, so we can create a new one for this specific release. ISRC should remain the same as the original.

After you have verified your metadata, go to Distribution (left sidebar), you will click Unselect All, scroll down the page to Specialty Stores and select Beatport.

If this choice is Greyed-out, you will have to apply for Label access, which allows you to deliver songs to Beatport.

Click Apply for Access and fill out the form.

If you're accepted by Beatport, our support team will be in contact via email.

Once the Beatport label page is approved and set up, you can now add your Presaves and Add-ons, then go to Submit (left sidebar), and click Distribute Release.
